“心灵鸡汤”的说法源自于国外的一套丛书，叫做Chicken Soup for the Soul, 但这仅仅是书名。我们现在提到的“心灵鸡汤”是指那些文字优美同时又鼓舞人的句子或文章，如果翻译成chicken soup for the soul会让人摸不着头脑。因此，不如按照不同情况直接翻译成更加直接的：motivational quotes（鸡汤类的短句）；motivational articles（鸡汤类的文章）；motivational speech（鸡汤类演讲）等，也可以译成comforting words。

而这两年内，“心灵鸡汤”一词又被赋予了一些讽刺意味，指的是“辞藻优美但是内涵空洞”的文章或句子等，因此有人提倡用“矛盾修辞法”，将其翻译成inspirational nonsense或是motivational nonsense，这种译法也十分有趣啊。
